Logistics Network Design

The ultimate goal of logistics network design is to achieve the highest level of service quality while keeping costs at a minimum.

Logistics network design is the strategic process of creating a comprehensive plan that integrates transportation, inventory management, and location strategies to align with your customer service objectives. The Logistics Network is what links manufacturers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers, making it a pivotal component within the broader Supply Chain.

Many companies tend to focus on optimising individual components of their logistics network in isolation, often overlooking the potential adverse cost impacts on other parts of the network. The key to an effective Logistics Planning and Network Design Strategy is the creation of a unified dynamic business model that considers all constraints and variables.

Our Aproach

  • Requirements Definition
    • Through a mixture of site visits. Data analysis will create an understanding of the existing business and work closely with the client to apply projected changes up to an agreed planning horizon.
  • Network Options Modelling
    • Using the information from the planning base, SCCG will explore the various options proposed by the client. Using this information from the planning base, we will have a look at the network options modelling, from building an inventory model scenario, build a cost model for warehousing and determine some transport costs for each scenario. Here, we will investigate the use of outsourced transport providers and the relative cost of this.
  • Strategic Roadmap and Final reporting
    • During the strategic roadmap, SCCG will work closely with the client to apply the outputs of the network options study to the existing operation. SCCG will also compare the existing network with the proposed model and create a roadmap that would show actions and key decision points.
